Philadelphia Paraquat Trial to Start this week

A bell weather trial is set to open this week in Philadelphia with the Plaintiff alleging Syngenta’s paraquat weed killing products caused the incurable brain disease Parkinsons.

The trial was scheduled to start Monday after jurors were selected late last week, but opening statements have been delayed by the heavy snowfall in Philadelphia. The trial is now set to get underway Wednesday or possibly Thursday.

It comes as US regulators are in the middle of a years-long review of paraquat after maintaining in prior reviews that the evidence linking paraquat to Parkinson’s is insufficient.

This trial will be watched across the country as an important test for causation and potentially damages.
